Eileen Fisher Collab/Upcycle

As part of a continuing collaboration with Eileen Fisher’s Renew, a take-back and resale program, students were tasked to upcycle worn garments provided and create new life within the brand’s aesthetic. My approach to upcycling is similar to my zero waste designs: fewer fit points, minimal cutting (re-using seam lines and pattern pieces where possible), and adjustability.
I used simple fabric manipulation like gathering and pleats to reimagine the drape of each garment. Any patching of fabric that was necessary was hidden internally, except on the accessory bag. While thinking of the clean lines of the Eileen Fisher style, I found it made sense to introduce different kinds of drape to aid in upcycling, but also with a slightly younger clientele in mind for gaining new visibility for the brand. Some slow-fashion hand sewing techniques were used both as design details as well as for visible demonstration of up-cycling.
